Burglar Alarm FAQs from Lincs Alarms

Burglar Alarm FAQs

We are often asked questions about home burglar alarms and their installation, so in this blog post we have put together some of the top questions that we have been asked for a handy reference guide for our new and existing customers.

If you have a specific question not covered below please get in touch and we will be happy to help.

What happens if everyone just ignores my burglar alarm?

A burglar alarm is designed to alert people in the event of a break-in. However, if everyone ignores the alarm, it will not be effective.

The best way to ensure that your alarm is effective is to have it professionally installed and to test it regularly. You should also make sure that your alarm is loud enough to be heard from a distance, and that it is visible from all angles.

If you do all of these things, then you can be confident that your alarm will help to deter burglars and keep your home safe.

Can I set my alarm for different areas?

Our home security systems are designed to be as versatile and convenient as possible. You can choose to set the entire system when you’re away from home, or just select certain areas that you want to be monitored.

For example, you might set the ground floor while you’re sleeping on the second floor. This way, you can move around freely without triggering the alarm. Or, if you have young children who are often coming and going, you can set the perimeter of your property but leave the interior unset.

Do I need to fit a sensor in every room?

Alarms are an important part of any home security system, but you may be wondering how many sensors you need to install in order to be properly protected. The answer may vary depending on the size and layout of your home, as well as your personal security needs.

However, a good rule of thumb is to install at least one sensor in every room that you want to protect. This will ensure that no matter where an intruder enters your home, the alarm will sound, alerting you and your security company to the situation.

You may also want to consider installing additional sensors in particularly vulnerable areas, such as windows and doors. By taking these precautions, you can help to ensure that your home is safe from intrusion.

What happens to my alarm if there is a power cut?

When the power goes out, your alarm system will automatically switch to backup battery power. Most security systems have a backup battery that can last for several hours. If the power is out for an extended period of time, you may need to replace the backup battery.

If your alarm system is connected to a monitoring service, the monitoring centre will be notified if the power goes out and the backup battery is activated.

Will my pets set off my alarm when I’m at work?

One common worry of pet-owners who also use an alarm system is whether or not their animals will set off the alarm when they’re away at work. The good news is that, in most cases, pets won’t set off your alarm. Most home security systems are designed to ignore small movements, like those made by a cat or dog.

Can I view my cameras remotely?

Yes it is possible to view your cameras from virtually anywhere, as long as there’s a broadband connection or mobile phone signal. You can view the pictures recorded by your cameras on a TV or even view your cameras using a smart phone.

Are wireless burglar alarms as good as wired burglar alarms?

The debate between wireless and wired burglar alarms has been going on for years, with no clear winner. There are pros and cons to both types of systems.

Wireless systems are usually easier to install, since there’s no need to run wiring through the walls. They’re also less likely to be hampered by power outages, since they run on batteries. On the other hand, wired systems are often cheaper, and they’re more difficult for burglars to disable.

Ultimately, the best type of alarm system is the one that best meets your needs. If you’re looking for an easy-to-install system that won’t be affected by power outages, a wireless system is probably your best bet. But if you’re looking for a more affordable option that’s tamper-resistant, a wired system may be a better choice.

Is it possible to have alarms which are not monitored?

Unmonitored alarms rely on the occupants of the premises to take action when the alarm is triggered. This can be problematic as many people do not know how to respond appropriately when an alarm is activated.

In addition, unmonitored alarms may not be effective in deterring intruders as they are aware that there is no one monitoring the alarm. For these reasons, it is generally recommended that alarms are monitored by a professional security company.

Monitored alarms provide peace of mind as you know that someone will be alerted if the alarm is triggered. This can help to significantly reduce the risk of theft or damage to your property.

Are intruder alarms easy to use?

Intruder alarms are designed to be easy to use, so that you can quickly and easily secure your home or business in the event of an emergency.

Most alarms have a simple control panel that allows you to set the alarm and turn it on or off with the push of a button.

Some alarms also have an automatic arming feature that will automatically activate the alarm when you leave the premises. In addition, many intruder alarms now come with mobile apps that allow you to control the alarm remotely, so you can arm and disarm the system even when you’re not at home.
